    Hi all

Bit of a strange thing on my wife’s new laptop, which runs Windows 11 Pro .

In the taskbar notifications area, the Windows Security shield icon is showing the ‘Actions Recommended’ triangle.

    Action recommended

But when you click on it, the Security at a Glance page shows no actions are needed. All up to date with patches.

    No action needed
I’ve ran DSIM and Scannow, both of which showed no problems. Does anyone have any ideas, please?

    Many thanks

    Rob

The cause seems elusive, but a few suggestions here:

Remove Windows Defender Action Needed or Recommended notification

        Thanks for the tip, b.

I’ve tried all of them (except the last one: turn the icon off so it’s out of sight, out of mind!), but no luck.

Oh well, it may be something MS fix in a future update.

Run a full scan of Defender and thereafter avoid running any cleaners that address Defender.

I ran a full scan to no avail. Her laptop doesn’t have any cleaners on.

I’m not sure, but I don’t think this is a “you” problem, I think it’s a Microsoft problem. Microsoft will have to fix it.

Took me down a rabbit hole but …

This entry discusses the same issue, which I noticed recently on my Windows 11 machines and offers a work around deleting a left over folder  but after attempting to remove it and failing because of security permissions – I just decided to leave it.

This is the second instance of the Windows security notifications being false.  The first was fixed.   Seems MS keeps botching updates regarding their security which makes me a little nervous.   I’m hoping that MS comes out with the proper fix soon.

I came here to this forum to see if there as any info on this problem.

Thanks. I perused all the reputation-based settings, but they are already on.

There’s enough posts out there to make me realise there’s probably no easy fix for this, and so I’m resigned to hoping it’ll get fixed in a future update. (Until they break it again!)

Susan suggests an “install over the top” to fix these weird issues.
Got a misbehaving Windows 10? reinstall

The thing is, this is basically a clean out-of-the-box Windows 11 already.

Nice to know we have the option to install over the top (I had no idea!), but I’m not quite ready to go down that road just yet. It’s taken me long enough to get it set up ‘just so’!

No … Different issue.  This is Windows 11.  It was fine  but an update recently screwed this up.  Of course you could start removing the updates until it’s fixed however it is easier to just leave it until MS gets their finger out.

There are currently some very strange issues with Microsoft Defender. Microsoft has bashed something. (I think all the issues are related.)

Read here and all the way to the May 4, 2023 entry.
Update for Microsoft Defender Antivirus antimalware platform KB5007651 Version 1.0.2303.27001 updates continuously and repeatedly. (I’m currently seeing this issue.)

Microsoft needs to correct this problem, but I’m not sure when repair will occur.

@ Rob F. I had exactly the same issue. I did read somewhere that there may be some type of bug causing this which may get fixed in the future, however sorry I can no longer find that reference.
Anyways what fixed it for me was to open each category (i.e. Virus Threat and Protection) and look to see if there was another subcategory flagged. If yes, then click dismiss. In my case the subcategories Cloud Protection and Submit Samples were set to off, so I clicked dismiss for both and the action triangle warning on the taskbar notification icon went away. Oddly the warnings on the subcategories came back later, but the taskbar notification icon is still warning free.

Thanks for the tip. I tried that but nothing doing I’m afraid. I also toggled each category off and on (or on and off, depending on what the existing setting was), which didn’t work for me either.
