IMHO, a VB forum should be separate from a VBA forum.

Questions regarding using VB with Office are appropriate for a VBA forum, but questions regarding many things in VB-land are not at all appropriate for a VBA forum.

So what’s the problem, there’s enough stuff you can learn in VBA that applies to VB, and there are things one can learn that apply to VBA. In your train of thought then, let’s have an Access VBA forum, Excel VBA forum, Word VBA forum, etc. as there are things in each that the others don’t have.

I can ask all sorts of VB questions that do not apply to VBA.

And, yes, there should be separate Word VBA, Access VBA, Excel VBA, etc. forums, just as there are at msnews.com.

I don’t think we should separate VBA forums based on the particular application engine, mainly because I suspect that most of the questions will either be cross-posted or will be posted and answered on the application forum. However, I don’t think we should shut down on someone for having the idea.

I haven’t seen too many VBA routines over the years that were generic enough to simply be filed under VBA, but maybe that’s what we should shoot for in this forum–the generic stuff that could be used in any of the VBA engines, including VB. Perhaps we could prevail on Eileen to give us a means for easily cross-posting VB/VBA questions to the application forums, maybe with a link to get the member to the answer on the specific forum. That would reduce the overall number of posts while making the answers more accessible to those who usually only explore “their” forum.

I don’t encourage cross-posting. Loungers will just have to exercise a modicum of common sense and keep an eye on the VB/VBA forum for posts of relevance to their own interests.

Not trying to shut or shoot someone down. If one really wants that level of categorized discussion, IMHO, Microsoft’s Newsgroups are perfect for that. They’ll even breakdown things like Access. A group for forms, table design, queries, module coding, form coding, etc. etc.

Plus there’s the added benefit of the Microsoft MVP’s reading and responding to posts, plus lots of authors of extremely helpful tomes on the various applications.
