    Hi there,

I’m hoping someone may be able to help me out with the search facility on our intranet…

Previously we were using Frontpage 97 on a 2k server with Server Extensions 2000 and we were able set a search scope for each search on the intranet. This meant that only specific folders were searched upon for each search. For example, we have a folder that contains a page for each of our users, and we have a “whos who” search that had been configured to only search through the Who’s who folder.

Now that we have moved to our new kit, every search we have is searching the entire site, and it looks like the Search-scope within frontpage has now become redundant. I had thought that I would have to set up an individual index for each search, however I can see no way of configuring a Frontpage search to use anything but the FPSE_search index. Is this the way that I would have to go about this, or am I missing something completely?

Any and all help greatly appreciated.

    Regards

    Alba

I haven’t used FrontPage for a few years but it was my understanding at the time that breaking your site into “subwebs” was the most reliable way to limit the scope of an index: searching within a subweb cannot see out, and if I recall correctly, searches from outside the subweb cannot see in. In that sense, it’s not very flexible, either. grin

Thanks for coming back to me on this – however on Frontpage 97 (which we have been using up til a month or so ago…this caused other issues!!) we were able to set a Search Scope, where you could determine the folders that would be searched for a particular search.

I already have a subweb setup, for one particular area of our intranet, however when performing a search within this subweb it will search the entire site, and return results from the entire site – not just the subweb. After hunting through the Microsoft site, there was a suggestion that instead of setting search scope, you could set a ‘Word List to search’ for the search results pane, and from my reading this suggests that you can enter the name of the folder you wish to search, but it still returns the search from the entire site.

Can anyone give me a step to a hint before I start to think I’m going mad?
        Thanks

Did you ever find a solution on this one? I’m hitting precisely the same problem. At one point (several years ago) I went back to a search form I had created in FP 97 that still worked for searching a specific directory, copied the HTML, and pasted it to the new location. I believe that worked, but no longer remember where I did that. Help & Knowledge Base from Microsoft are silent on any issues with this functionality.
