We have hundreds of documents that have graphics (headers and footers) LINKED to graphic files. We have noticed that SOME are linked to the wrong files.
Is there anyway that word2000 can preform a search of existing links in documents to help me find and weed-out the bad ones?

In the file containing linked graphics, go the Edit|Links|Change Source (Button)for those pictures you find are the wrong one, and change the link path. Whether the picture shown is the wrong one is a decision you have to take.

Sometimes, the pictures are both, Linked and Embedded. In such cases, If you want to ascertain whether the pictures are correctly linked, just move the directory in which the pictures are stored somewhere else, and then open the file and generate a PDF file with File|Print|Options (button)|Update Links (check Box) selected. Then move the directory back to the original path. In the resultant PDF file, if there are any pictures, they are embedded. The ones which are not printed are linked.

      Define “wrong”.

Do you mean ‘There’s a link but the thing it points to doesn’t exist there anymore (in which case a short macro ought to do the trick – run it overnight and examine the log file in the morning), or do you mean ‘I don’t like that picture and would rather susbtitute THIS one”?

The problem is not HOW to change the links.
The problem is finding WHICH documents have the wrong links.
I would like to be able to do a some sort of customized search on the “link” fields in ALL documents in order to identify the bad documents.

Yes, but you write ” in order to identify the bad documents”.

What is your definition of “bad”? Do you mean “This link points to a file which no longer exists”?

And if not that, what is your criteria? One must know the criteria before starting the search.
