I am resuscitating a Win7 ThinkPad, downloaded and installed Firefox 80 and tried to Sync with my other devices only to get the following security message

    https://ibb.co/0QZN02W

I get the same message with StartPage, Google, BBC and even askwoody.com. Presumably it will happen with every website I visit.  I have posted on Mozillazine forum 36 hours ago but have not had any replies.  I am using FF80 on a desktop under Win7 and Linux Mint and have not experienced this problem.

Any advice would be much appreciated as I do not want to have to use a different browser on the ThinkPad.

See Incorrect system clock near the bottom of Mozilla’s support article:

Secure connection failed and Firefox did not connect

“resuscitating” … “downloaded and installed Firefox 80”
Was FF previously on the machine? Which version?
Did you do a full uninstall of the previous version, or just an over-the-top install of 80?
Presumably you also are using an old Profile.

Try: Create a new FF Profile, test.

I think that I recall that there have been some significant security-related changes in FF, and it may be that some ‘old’ files (don’t know if the Registry also is involved) are impinging on your accessing.

If you want to pin down details, do some readings of the Release Notes on the FF releases between then and now. Also see the Firefox version history.

The trooubleshoot suggested that it may be due to an antivirus.  I run Kaspersky and the first suggestion was to update to the latest version.  I had previously updated to the latest version but uninstalled it because it was incompatible with Malwarebytes and disabled it.  I was not having that and re-installed the older version.  The second suggestion was to go in to the settings of Kaspersky and check ‘Do not scan encrypted connections’ and reboot.  Following this I now have been able to sync my Bookmarks and Extensions.

Since the message always stated that Firefox was preventing the connection I do not see how Kaspersky was responsible but then I am ignorant and the problem has been solved so why worry.

Thank you for your reference to the article on Mozilla.
