selecting cells problem (97)

I have come accross a problem that seems to appear and then disappear. Sometimes when I start excel, the spreadsheet cells become selected as I move my mouse – WITHOUT holding down the mouse button. It is asthough the mouse button is stuck down, however the mouse works fine with all my other applications. Does any one have any suggestions as to what may be causing this.

I have checked to see EXT mode is not on – which it isn’t so what can it be………?

This might have something to do with your mouse driver. Is it a wheel mouse? Then start looking for an updated driver.

Sometimes clicking the wheel makes the problem go away.

Along with Jan Karel’s suggestions, one machine I use has this problem in all Apps (it’s a major nuisance using File Explorer) and Ctrl-Clicking anything returns the mouse to expected behavior.

If I remember well, I had this problem in the past after I used the internet. Once my browser was updated to Internet Explorer 5, the problem disappeared.
