Well, well. Anyone else notice that Server 2012 mainstream support ended on October 9th?

Only reason I came to realize this was because I was informed by a company that handles our excise tax that they will no longer support systems running on server 2012. I’m going to need to setup 2 new web servers running server 2016……. wonderful.

This is the first server 2016 system I’ve setup. In WSUS this system is being reported as “Windows 10” and no reference at all that this is running a server OS. If it wasn’t for our naming convention I would have no idea it is a server when looking at it in WSUS.

I’m sure many already know this…. I saw the version of Windows server 2016 we are running is version 1607. When I looked into upgrading I learned versions 1709 and 1803 are server core only. So…if you want a gui 1607 it is.

That MS support article indicates the “Extended Support End Date” is now 10/10/2023 with the note: “Mainstream and Extended support for this product has been extended to provide customers with the standard lifecycle transition timeline.”

So, from the info in the link below, am I correct in understanding that Server 2012 will still get both security and non-security updates through 2023?
