I am getting this error which appeared after a bunch of Big fix Updates were completed, but it may not be related.

The Cdralw2k service failed to start due to the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

The system works with removable drive bays and presently does not have a CDROM installed.

      You have three choices:

      1. Set this service to manual
      2. Disable the service
      3. Ignore and forget about it.

That would be a great solution if I only could figure out which service was calling the offending “Cdralw2k” but there is no “Cdralw2k service” listed in the Services list. I am able to locate it in the registry, but do not know what it supports.

Being as how i have no CDROM writer installed or any Writer software I am at a loss as to why I have this registry bug that appears to be the source of all my fun. Not that it is much of a problem, just a single acknowlage every boot up. but it does hang up my dial up modem so I can’t dial in, or so it would appear. So I changed the start value in the registry to a manual start and so far everything is looking OK. Thanks all for the help.
