I have a desktop Outlook acount set up on win11 working fine. I wish to set up a Thunderbird acount to the same ISP on a seperate Linux mint system – so far unavailing.

This is the error message” Error with account [Username] @pathcom.com
The RETR command did not succeed. Error retrieving a message. Mail server pop3.pathcom.com responded: Can’t open the message file – it’s gone!”

My email provider says their settings requiremnts are (and I cross checked these with my Outlook settings) ”

    Incoming Mail Server POP3
    Server: pop3.pathcom.com Port: 110
    Security: SSL off
    Username: [Your Email Address]
    Password: [Your Password]

    Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP):
Server: smtp.pathcom.com Port: 587 Security: SSL off Username: [Your Email Address] Password: [Your Password]
For Thunderbird when security requit “no”
When it asks for passwords enter “no” then gets saved”
What I have put in T/bird is (“Y) means ‘checked’)

    SMTP Server
    Settings
    Description:

    Server Name: smtp.pathcom.com
    Port 587
    Security and Authentication
    Connection security: None

    Authentication method: No authentication
    User Name: [Username] @pathcom.com

Y Check for new messages at startup
Y Check for new messages every 1 minutes
    Y Automatically download new messages

    x Fetch headers only

    Y Leave messages on server
…..Y For at most 14 days

    …..Y Until I delete them
    Message Storage
    Empty Trash on Exit
Message Store Jype: File per folder (mbox)
    Local Directory: /home/emad/.thunderbird/8zgvluqd.default-release/Mail/pc Browse.

    What should I do?

They truly have SSL off on port 110? That’s not wise as your password will pass to their mail server in plain text and anyone can read it.

        Susan,

        Thanks for the comment.

This is what they say – and the screen prints are what Outlook says.

I have considered moving to a diferent email supplier / eddress. However whilst I could do a group email tell my contacts of the change, getting all 921 contacts into a group would take quite a while. Also what about all the unknown to me folk who have this eddress as their security contact?

so I think I am stuck with pathway.

You do an OOF on your old email to indicate you are moving.  You send emails from your new provider.  People respond to and reply to whatever email they get.  Can you email me the screen shots directly to sb@askwoody.com?

Is your Outlook email client also configured to leave messages on the server?
