    Hello,

Quite often I am in a situation where I want to maximize a Window, but I don’t want it to take up the full width of the screen.
I find it very annoying to have to drag the sides in every time so that it is the size I want it to be.
Is there a way to set the size once and have it remember it the next time.
It would be even better if there was a program that would add an extra button
to the top of every Window next to the minimize, maximize and close buttons.
That button could be used as a Window Size Preset button.
You could set it once to a custom size, and then you can use it to instantly have the Window re-size to your preset size.

Sorry if that sounds a little confusing, but I tried to explain it as best I could.

    Thanks

Set the application to open in a normal window, open the application, resize the window to your preferred size, then close the window. When you open the application the next time, Windows should “remember” the window size.

That is true, only it doesn’t always work.
Plus I would like every application to open at the same preset size,
without having to set it for each application.

Remembering Window size is up to the application developer to include. Most Microsoft supplied application programs will remember Window sizing.

I’ve read on other forums where people with this problem have had luck using File>Close instead of the red X, as well as CtrlX, ShiftX, ShiftCtrlX, etc. I also read somewhere where Windows has a limit to how many window settings it will remember. I think the article said 100 windows, but I’m not sure about that. It IS a very buggy feature.

I believe the setting was increased to 5,000 in SP2. See: My view settings or customizations for a folder are lost or incorrect

That is for customized folder views in Windows Explorer. It doesn’t apply to application windows, which Andy’s question is about, if I understand it correctly.

      Hello All,

Just to make sure were all clear I will try to explain it better.

If you have seen my other post on “Making a Window Always On Top”,
the Lounger TonyE was able to find me a great program that allows
me to make any Window that is currently in the foreground to always
stay in the foreground just by pressing CTRL + ALT + T.

I am now trying to find a similar type of program that would allow me
to maximize any Window to a predetermined size. I know that
Windows XP does this as Rebel has mentioned, but that built in
feature of Windows XP is not very reliable. Plus that would mean I
would have to re-size every Window that I open for the first time.

I would like to set a size and associate it with a hot key shortcut.
      For example:
      If I set my size to: 550 X 380
Then while in a Window I could press CTRL + ALT + M
The current Window that I was in at the time of pressing
      CTRL + ALT + M would then re-size to 550 X 380.

      Thanks again to all,
      Andrew

      Something like THIS

    • #1191355

Excellent! Thanks so much, I like its additional features settings too.
Highly recommended, Sizer v3.3 can be found at:

      Thanks again,
      Andrew

      Yes, Thanks jolas.
It is programs and ideas like that, that should have already been a feature in Windows.
