Setting default sender/from details (Outlook 2000 CW)

I have Outlook 2000 in Corporate/Workgroup mode. I have 3 or so Internet E-mail accounts set up in Services which I want to check. When I send an e-mail I want to choose which of these accounts appears as the Sender (so that replies will come back to the chosen account) and also to be able to select the default account which will always be the sender unless otherwise specified.

In Outlook 98 and 2000 IMO this is easy, as you have Tools-Accounts and can set the default account. I cannot discover how to do this in CW. I know how to override the sender using the Message-Options-Delivery options-have replies sent to procedure, but this is a pain to use and does not allow me to set or change the default.

Surely there must be a way of doing this? Help, please!

I think the official answer is to create 3 profiles and logoff/logon when you want to assume a new personality. Not aware of a fast/convenient way.

I agree that separate profiles is what’s needed, an additional “glitch” that sometimes throws a wrench into the picture is some ISP’s (at least one that I use for my home email) require that you’re logged onto their system before you can send mail using their mail servers.

A side note — I’ve heard Outlook 2002 (XP?), allows a “Send Using” to address the original question of this thread (still wouldn’t solve the problem I note above).

Thanks. I sort of half-knew that. But it’s so inconvenient (and, at least on my system, takes about a minute or more) that I was sure there must be some other way. Isn’t this a problem a lot of people face?

Unfortunately there does not seem to be any way around this problem of creating separate profiles and logging in using them. I had a similar problem recently (see this thread) but there does not seem to be any other solution than that suggested by jscher and Allen.

If you are successful in finding anything, please let us all know.

I was looking at the September thread you mentioned about From fields in mailmerge. Could you use the Options button on the toolbar of the new message window to access Delivery Options and Have Replies Sent to… I have used this on single messages and it works o.k. –avoiding the ‘On behalf of’ trap if you just enter a different address in the From field.

If so, then you could write a macro to automate this procedure and either make it available on the new message toolbar or perhaps build it into a template for new messages of this type.

Why is Outlook so impossibly clumsy in dealing with things like this????

Sorry Mike , I have been carried away with other things and did not notice your reply earlier.

I did not consider the “Have replies sent to” option before, but I guess anything is worth a try. I will give it a go over the next couple of days and let you know if I have any success with it.
