I tried to follow these instructions when setting up Windows 11 Pro:
Initial account screen offers no option for a local account or an offline account. To choose a local account, click Sign in button.
On the next screen, type email address a@a.com into the Sign in field and click Next. Type anything for the password. You’re then asked for your password. Type anything you want, preferably some type of gibberish. Click the Sign in button (Figure 3). Get message that something went wrong. Click Next, and you’ll then be able to set up a local account.
At the next few screens, add the admin local username for your local account, type and retype a password, and then set up your three security questions and answers.
However, after “Oops, something went wrong”/Next, I was not able to set up a local account.

    Has MS removed that possibility?

    Thanks, cma

Moderator edit: to remove HTML. Please use the “Text” tab when you copy/paste, or use the menu button “T” (paste as text). The HTML makes the content unreadable.

If you want to type out your post and then copy/paste it, use Notepad.  Don’t use Word or any other app that employs text formatting.

For a clean install and setting up a local account, choose the option for “Work or school”, and you will be able to use a local account instead of a Microsoft account.

Always create a fresh drive image before making system changes/Windows updates; you may need to start over!

OK, too late now to chosse Work and School but will remember for next time. Thanks for cleaning up the text and posting. I use a great program called Textmaker. It’s default output is .tmdx files.

      Hey Y’all,

Yesterday I was working on a computer referb when I forgot to disconnect the ethernet cable and thus got caught in the create a MS Account loop.

      So…

      1. I just decided to create a new JUNK email address with a junk name and PW.
      2. Once the install completed I simply set up a new Admin Account (Friends & Family — don’t know login info).
      3. Sign Out
      4. Sign In using new account.
      5. Goto Accounts and delete the MS Account.

Easy Peasy! No fancy foot work required.

May the Forces of good computing be with you!

This looks good. I’ll try it tomorrow.

This worked well, thanks. Excellent method: don’t fight the Leviathan; give them an email address you create. And then follow the Elder Geek formula.

I will look for Text tab next time I post. Where do I find it?

Right click in the text box and you will get an option to paste as plain / unformatted text.

        cheers, Paul
