    Hi gang,
I was thinking about sharing a workbook in the department and was wondering if you would recommend it.
I read the help about sharing a worbook and them don’t mention limitations like how many person can make modifications at the same time.
Could someone share their experience with me or point me to explanations more detailed than what Help can give me.
    tks.

I strongly recommend *not* sharing a workbook. It is a recipe for corrupting the workbook sooner or later.

With a ‘normal’ (non-shared) workbook, users can still view the workbook in read-only mode while someone else is editing it, and they can indicate that they want to be notified when the workbook is available for editing again.

If you really need multi-user capability, think about a database program such as Access or SQL Server.

I agree with Hans. If I had any say in this I’d send out the next Office update with a “fix” that makes sharing workboks impossible.

My experience is that shared workbook become corrupted very frequently. If you must share a workbook, I would recommend backing it up every couple of hours and keep ALL of the backups so you can work back until you find one that is not corrupted.

I decided to go with your advice and not share the workbook.
      Thanks for your help.
