I have a Windows 10 Home version 2004 (OS Build 19041.572) desktop (Dell Inspiron) in my office at home. In my music studio in the basement I have a 2009 iMac running High Sierra. My ISP is Comcast and I am leasing the router, which is a recent model (the black tower). I have MS OneDrive (Office 365 subscription) and Dropbox (free version) installed on both computers. On the Windows 10 box I save/store all my files in OneDrive. Unfortunately High Sierra can’t see inside OneDrive and since I only have a few GB of space in Dropox I have ended up with maybe 20GB of files stored just on the iMac and I’m getting nervous about losing them if the iMac bites the dust. I would like to connect the two computers. When I click on Network on the Windows 10 box I see “Network discovery is turned off. Network computers and devices are not visible. Please turn on network discovery in Network and Sharing Center.” Looking in Settings > Network and Internet > Status, the connection diagram shows “Ethernet Public network” under the Ethernet component. I have done some research and found strong warnings about turning on Sharing and especially if you are on a public network. I would have thought I would be on a private network as this is at my home. I need some advice on connecting the Windows 10 and High Sierra computers to be able to copy/move files in both directions while not compromising the security of my network. Thanks, Don
