Hi,
Is there any way of customising my inbox fields to show if an email has been printed. I have looked in the field chooser but cant seem to find anything.
Cheers

I don’t recall seeing a Date field for “printed.” You could “hijack” the print command with a macro that updates a custom field. However, those sorts of things are more difficult in Outlook than in Word/Excel; I’m not sure you can guarantee the correct result (i.e., if you cancel the print, the record might say you DID print).
Hmmm, thanks for your input … someone mentioned this to me (I am a computer trainer) and swears they have seen it on a users machine …. I can’t figure out how it might be done… I am also not sure if it was a date field or a yes/no field, or as you say, what would be recorded if you cancelled the print.
Guess I can now go back with confidence and say that if it can be done, it would need customised forms or something to make it work.
Cheers
Karen
When you choose Tools>Forms>Design This Form for a message, you get an All Fields tab. Among the selections on the drop-down on that tab are All Mail Fields and All Document Fields, and the latter does have a Printed field (of type Date/Time). On a couple message I checked, the Printed field does not appear to store any value when an email is printed, at least for Plain Text and HTML formats. But maybe it works for other types of Outlook items and the user saw it there?
Thanks both for your input … as I thought … might be possible with a customised form and outlook coding, but as this is in a corporate environment, I don’t think that will fly. Just didn’t want to say it couldn’t be done if it could using native outlook functionality.
I had added the printed fields to the view but as you say they must relate to something else because all showed with no values in them.
If anyone else has any ideas I would be happy to hear them.
