How do get a version number on a PowerPoint slide and shown on every slide(page)?

I presume a version number can be created for each time a ppt file is saved as Word do it.

I have also problems in showing date and time and slide number on the slide. I have tried to do as the Help function tells me to:
“To add a slide number or date and time to every slide, on the View menu, click Header and Footer, and then select the appropriate options. The slide number and date and time are positioned in default placeholders on the slide. You can change the position of these placeholders on the slide master.”

I can’t get this to work!??

As far as I know, PowerPoint doesn’t have built-in versioning.

To change the slide master (you may want to practice on a dummy presentation or on a copy of an existing presentation first): select View | Master | Slide Master, or Shift+click the “Normal View” button in the lower left corner (the tooltip changes to “Slide Master View” if you hold down the Shift key).

At the bottom of the slide, you will see placeholders for date/time, footer and slide number. You can format, position and resize these placeholders.
Select View | Header and Footer to specify which elements you want to show on all slides, and to set the footer text; you can include a version number if you wish, but it won’t be updated automatically. It may be possible to create a macro to update it, but I am not familiar with PowerPoint VBA… Click “Apply to All” to store your settings in the slide master.

To get back to Normal view, select View | Normal or click the “Normal View” button.

        Thanks Hans,

I will try the VBA some time later. The Help text was very unclear to me.

        Thanks again
