EXTREMELY wide picture cropped by HansV – the rest was mostly empty anyway!

I cannot get my copy of Pinnacle Studio (v11.1) to see the Pinnacle MovieBox – it is supposed to connect via FireWire. All worked before I upgraded to V11 and installed SP3 – not sure which caused the problem. But in trying to find a solution I saw that in Device Manager there is an item “Other Devices” with a yellow question mark and under that is listed “SI Pseudo Device SCSI Processor Device” with a yellow question mark. Have searched Microsoft Knowledge Base but can find nothing that helps, and Googled the problem – but seems lots of people have similar problems but no one seems to have a solution. Of course I cannot be sure that this device has anything to do with the MovieBox failure – but it seems that both things may be connected? Attached is a screen shot of the relevant registry key in case that tells some one smarter than me something.
Any suggestion will be most welcome.

You need to download and install the driver. Visit your motherboard vendor webpage and look for the latest driver.

Most likely you have SATA controller which emulates SCSI for RAID configuration. Pinnacle Studio may change your BIOS configuration to activate FireWire, but Windows couldn’t find an appropriate driver (yellow question mark in Device Manager).

If you already have the latest driver, try to reinstall it.

Thank you – you are correct – I do have a SATA controller and disk drives. However I downloaded the latest drivers from the ASUS web site, which turned out to be identical to the drives on the CD which came with the motherboard, and tried to update the drivers but although the update drivers tool recognised that there was an INF file in the folder it reported that it was unable to find a suitable driver.
Strangely, when I clicked on the Driver Details button the report said “No driver files are required or have been loaded for this device”.
So still no further forward. Do you think deleting the device in Device Manager is a good idea?

Yes, try to uninstall problem device from Device manager and restart your computer. When Add a New Hardware wizard discover the device, point it (selecting “Not at this time”, “Install from a a list or specific location”, any device, “Have disk”) to the INF file of your driver.

But before you do it check BIOS version on your computer (the very first screen when you power on your computer) and the latest BIOS update on ASUS website – if the later is newer, update BIOS first.

Thank you for that advice – I updated the BIOS to the latest version, then disabled and removed the SI Pseudo Device SCSI Processor Device in Device Manager and then rebooted, followed your instructions to install the driver, and all seemed to work. Rebooted and checked the Device Manager – no Other device now shown. The reference to the SI Pseudo device in the registry has also disappeared – SCSI 3 item in the registry is now empty.
However Studio can still not see the MovieBox – so I guess I still have another problem to sort out!
Never-the-less, thank you very much for your advice – at least it has eliminated one puzzle that was worrying me.
