Size of image greatly reduced using True Image

I have used True Image for many years and have been very happy with it. Maybe 10 months ago my image size increased from 180-90 GB to 240GB, I never found out why. My last two images have returned to 187gb. I do not use compression and I use CCleaner and Wise Disc cleaner to remove rubbish I also use the Microsoft Disc Cleanup and use the Clean up System files option. Any one any idea what may be going on?

Curious what version you used which produced the “bigger-sized image(s)” and if you used the same version for the return to the smaller size.  I’m especially wondering if you might have upgraded to TI 2020.

I ask this because I note that TI 2020 no longer uses the file format which former versions used having a “.tib” suffix, but instead 2020 now uses solely a format with a “.tibx” suffix.

There is nothing in the FAQs about changes/reductions to image sizes, and I don’t have any personal experience regarding it.  This is because I purchased an upgrade to 2020 not knowing about the “new” format and I have decided NOT to use it based on the serious limitations of the new format. (FWIW, it is not possible to “retro” 2020 and force it to use the older .tib file format.)

Does this any of this have any applicability to your situation?

I had the same problems with True Image 2020 moving to .tibx (had other problems as well).
The main problem was that my daily incremental updates were added to the full image file and not stand alone files so I couldn’t check their size.
I was refunded for 2020 upgrade and re-installed True Image 2019.

I haven’t yet clicked “submit”, but by trial and error, it looks like the following will also work:  1) click “reply” at the top of the original post (yours in this case); 2) select the text; and 3) click “Quote” at the bottom of original post.

Anyway, doing it this way has placed your original text into the top of this reply and it’s surrounded by a number of “quote” words surrounded by bracket symbols.

I’ll find out soon.

Interestingly, though, on my end I don’t seem to be able to duplicate the quoting method you describe. I’m using Firefox (ESR), but wouldn’t expect browser choice – or browser config – to be the issue. Hmmmm, perhaps you’re using a feature only available to signed-in members?

Or maybe I’m just confused – it happens sometimes. 😉

Thank you all for your opinions. I have today run the different options and have come up with the following:

Max Compression: 179GB
No Compression: 206GB
Norm’ Compression: 186GB

I only make full images, not interested in Differential/Incremental.

Windows 10 (1909) 64bit
TI 2019

Mount one of the large images and then use TreeSizeFree to find the space hogs.
Do the same on a “normal” image.
