I’ve a question. I’m running an HP Pavilion Win 10 Pro, 16 GB ram, still running fine. I’m retired so it’s used daily but for brief periods of time. No business related purposes, purely personal use. I’ll likely replace it this fall, it’ll be seven years old in November.

I don’t even have a microphone for it, I’ve never used it for voice anything (I do have an iPhone Pro Mas and iPad Pro). Windows keeps installing Skype and another program I use wants to as well. I don’t see any reason I need it on my machine and when it does install, it immediately opens. I uninstall it until it turns up again.

I can, and do, use my iPhone and iPad for visual calls on rare occasions, like a telehealth appointment. I will never use my desktop for that. Is there a way to prevent Update or anything else from installing Skype on this machine? I’m tired of having to uninstall it and just want it to leave me alone. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. :^) gene

Then deprovision at user level and system level using either cmd prompt or powershell in elevated mode (as admin)
That’ll stop it until you need to do an over-the-top installation.
Someone can post the code to use..(haven’t got it to hand atm)

Windows Debloater will do Skype, and others.

I have uninstalled it in all the ways mentioned. What I’d like is a registry entry to prevent it from being installed again. :^)

To deprovision Skype at system level:
Open either cmd prompt or powershell (right click, as admin)
        input the following code:

        get-appxpackage -allusers *SkypeApp* | remove-appxpackage
        Get-appxprovisionedpackage –online | where-object {$_.packagename –like '*Microsoft.SkypeApp*'} | remove-appxprovisionedpackage –online

No more by-default Skype in W10 and you won’t get it reinstalling 🙂

      Gene,

OTOH, Skype can be invaluable for emergency (cheap) phone calls when traveling outside the USA (especially if the person on the other end isn’t computer-savvy). I carry an (old, cheap) laptop with me for various reasons  when traveling. Just my 2¢.

I don’t travel outside the US and if I do a video call it’s on my Apple devices, do have Skype there. I just don’t want it on my Windows desktop. I can uninstall it, I just would like to prevent Update from reinstalling it without permission.

I just don’t want it on my Windows desktop

After uninstalling Skype ( don’t use Microsoft’s ‘no good’ uninstaller) block Microsoft Store updates.

For uninstalling use free portable uninstallers like GeekUninstaller, free Portable HiBit Uninstaller, free Revo uninstaller… These clear orphan folders, registry entries..

      BlockStore
