    Greetings,

I have a new Systemax AMD Quad Desktop with Windows 7-64, up to date. In the past few days, my internet has been extremely slow upon computer boot in the morning. I have cable internet ordinarily capable of about 10-20 mb. With this new behavior it goes 100-400 kb.

I reboot the computer and it is back to normal speed.

I have a g wireless router. Wife’s computer is not showing this behavior.

Recent MS update included a half dozen different .net 4 patches.

Could these be the culprit, or shold I look elsewhere for the cause of this?

    Many, many thanks!
    Ron

You could uninstall the updates one at a time to see if the PC starts working as expected, or if you have an idea of exactly when the problem started perhaps you could do a system restore to before the problem. If the system starts working properly at that time, start installing the updates one at a time until the problem reoccurs. One of these might be the easiest way to figure out if one of the updates is causing your temp slow down.

I prefer restoration from Images, but unless you have a recent Image from just before the problem started restoring from an Image might be counterproductive.

Thanks for the counsel, Ted. I will give this a try.

      Greetings!

My problem of intermittent slow internet remains. I have discovered that instead of rebooting the whole system, disconnecting and reconnecting the wireless session fixes the problem.

If someone has a thought of how to fix this, instead of having to use the work around, I would be in your debt.

      Regards,

First, the .NET 4 patches should have no effect on your internet connection or speed. As far as the connection speed goes, have you tried configuring the router to use a different channel? Have you recently moved or added any other wireless devices? Is the router firmware up-to-date?

I recently had a somewhat similar problem. One time my connection would connect, and the next nope, or while connected just go away. I knew my router was getting old so I updated it and all is well. Heed Joe’s advice and update your router firmware.
