• Slow update in Excel 2007

I have a spreadsheet (about 2000 rows of various calculations (mostly sums)) that in the previous version of excel updated quickly. Now, in Excel 2007, every time I change a cell, I have to wait 30 seconds for it to respond. This didn’t happen with the old version. I don’t really want to go to manual update, and even in compatibility mode, it’s slow. Any ideas on how to speed it up?

    Thanks

Are there formulas pointing to entire columns?
Where does control+end take you on the sheets?

No entire columns. Sums over 1-2K entries in a column. I also have lots of COUNTIFs over fixed ranges. Ctrl-end takes me to where I’d expect, in this case BE2142.

      Any hidden rows?

Does it help to do a control+shift+alt+F9 (forces Excel to rebuild the calculation tree)?

No hidden rows, and CSA-F9 doesn’t change things either. It only seems to affect the worksheet that has the calculations (other sheets contain mostly data) and even moving the cursor around on that page is slow.

      Thanks for the help.

do you have any code in the worksheet?

No code. Like I said, it was fast in Excel 2003, suddenly is like molasses in 2007.
