“Snipping Tool” is built into Windows and is very good.

      Start/All Programs/Accessories/Snipping Tool

Hold down the left mouse button, drag a box around the area of the screen you want to copy, then release the mouse button.

You can also choose to snip a window or free form.
If you need a timed snipper to collect menu items etc, try Irfanview.

If you need a timed snipper to collect menu items etc, try Irfanview.

You can capture popup menus using the Snipping Tool by:

          [*]Start an area capture.
          [*]Press: Esc.
          [*]Display the desired menu.
          [*]Press Ctrl+PrtScr.
          [*]Outline your selection as normal.

      Hi HowardC,
There is a free tool built into your keyboard, it’s called Print Scr (Screen) then paste it into ‘Paint’.

Capturing a snip of a menu
      1. After you open Snipping Tool, open the menu that you want a picture of.
      2. Press Ctrl+PrtScn.
      3. Tap or click the arrow next to the New button, choose the kind of snip you want, then pick the area of the screen that you want to capture.

Looks like the directions are a little different between win 7 & 8.

Both methods work on my 8.1. But RG gets the thanks as he was first;). Just another example of windows software having more than one way to skin a cat…

I want like to know how to add text to screenshot using snipping tool

It would ne appreciated if someone can please advise

    • #1513306

Save it as a png file (I think that’s all it does anyway) then open it in your favourite graphics program e.g. The Gimp, Photoshop or even good old Paint. You can then add text or other graphics there.

It can do GIF, JPG and MHT too, if you really want.

access-mdb thanks very much for your input

I have the file as a PNG and then opened in paint

Very easy to add text using this method

Oops, it would have helped if I clicked the down arrow when I saved the snip. Thanks Bruce.
