Since FileHippo seems to be dead, I’m wondering if anyone would recommend another. I’ve been looking as SUMo.

There are several Topics discussing SUMo on this site.
Using the Search box on to right, this is what I have found.
You can read through some of the threads and get an idea about the s/w.

I gave up on both Sumo and File Hippo a few years ago and moved over to Patch my PC.  They seem to stay on top of most applications (within 12 hours of actual release) and install silently without any ‘add ons’ if they are included in the freeware.  I would highly recommend checking the application out. I’ve been very pleased.  Here is the link for the d/l.

Patch my PC is no contender. The app recognizes about 10 apps on my PC where SUMo recognizes 40.
The most important difference is that SUMo detects Portable apps on a different drive (90% of apps I use are portable, on drive D).

With SUMo, if you have any programs installed in non-standard locations (e.g. not in “Program Files”) then you have to tell it to look in those other locations when doing a scan.  You do this via Options > Settings > Additional Folders, and enter the paths to those other locations, including the drive letter.  This will give good coverage.  When SUMo says that a new version of something is available, and you want to get it, do not do “Get update”.  Rather, make a note of the new version number and go to the product’s website to find the download.  Or try running your existing version if it has a “check for updates” option.
