I was doing a mail merge this morning and I was reminded that there is something that gets inserted at the top of the envelope page that I have always wondered about.

I always see this inserted at the top of the page, “1*;**;*false”. Does anyone here have any idea what this is and what function it performs?

Looks to me like you have an error in your database or your merge code. What version of what mail-merge program or word processor should we assume you’re using?

        Hi Tim,

Sorry! I can’t believe that I forgot to mention that I am running MS Word 2002 SP3. I am using the Mail Merge Wizard.

I know almost nothing about Word, I’m afraid; it’s my default curse processor, but I prefer WordPerfect for word processing.

Still, it sounds to me like, for instance, the form you’re populating is requesting a field in the database that’s missing or has a different name than is being requested. (Assuming the merge works at all similarly to WordPerfect.)

This might be unsolvable without a view of the “main” document you use for your merge.
