• Sorting Labels (Access 2003)

I’m having trouble sorting labels in Access 2003. I’m using the label wizard to generate two columns of labels from data in two linked tables.
Field 1 in Table 1 is the linking field to many records in Table 2..
I would like them to be sorted by Field 2 in table 1, then Field 3 in Table 2, ignoring Field 1 completely. The field 2 sort works properly, but it then uses Field 1 as the secondary sort field, then field 3 as terthiery sort field.
Any way to kill the field 1 sorting, which I would like the sort to ignore. Is this possible?

You can modify the sort order for the report (after the wizard has created it) in the View | Sorting and Grouping dialog. Make sure that Field2 is at the top, followed by Field3. If necessary you can delete a row in the dialog, and reorder the rows by dragging them up or down.

Yes, I’ve done that, but it still insists on using the linking field 1 as the secondary sort, even though it isn’t anywhere in the sorting and grouping list. I’ve looked at and tried changing every option I can find to kill the field 1 sorting to no avail. I hoping someone knows of some flag that is well hidden that may control it.

Could you post a stripped down copy of your database? See post 401925 for instructions.

            Thanks,
I’ve solved the problem. The other comments made me realize I was doing it correctly, so for the 14th time I deleted everything in the sorting and grouping box and re-added them, which didn’t fix it, until I added to the labels the linking field that it was incorrectly sorting on, even though they weren’t in the label before then. Actually having the linking field in the label appears to let Access properly know that it’s to be ignored in sorting. I just made it transparent so it doesn’t show.
