Because Win 10 Service Stack Updates are listed separately each month, should 1) the ssu be installed separately via catalog before the cumulative update or 2) let the ssu install via the monthly cumulative update?

I have done it both ways but easier if with the cumulative and probably the most common. In Win 7 it was separately —  reboot, wait, install ssu, wait again, reboot. I use the same method in Win10 when I install the ssu separately.

If it matters, I have both 1909 & 2004 pro updated thru October.

    Thanks

In Win10, the SSU is bundled with the CU (even it is not listed in the WU queue) and installs first automatically.
You don’t have to do anything if you use Windows Update.

If you install updates manually, the SSU should be installed first, then the CU.

I take it that having win update install the ssu is just as good as separately. Much easier that way and probably the way a large %age of the ssu updates are installed. At least MS made a positive move eliminating the separate ssu install.

Thanks again for all of your advice now and many previous times.
