startup disk with usb support

Sorry if this has been asked before. Trying to get into a Windows 98 system that had crashed I used the startup disk to get cd-rom support. However, because this particular machine had a usb keyboard & mouse the startup disk doesn’t didn’t support them. The same applies with a windows safe boot. Does anyone know how to get around this rather than reverting to a standard keyboard & mouse.

So far as I know the only way around that is if your mobo/BIOS support USB natively, and DOS doesn’t recognize those things. Surely someone out there has devised a way to do it but rather than searcing, try going to standard devices.

You can get USB to PS/2 adapters that will allow you to plug your peripherals into the standard ports.
