This thread was closed https://www.askwoody.com/forums/topic/did-the-ability-to-post-upload-images-go-away/ and there still seems that there is no way of attaching a jpg to a post but I saw a couple of post’s today that had attachments in them. Are only certain people getting the ability to attach files??????

I was experimenting with this yesteday and perhaps have found a solution, it worked for me whilst signed in.
Try dragging and dropping the jpeg or gif from your PC into the Visual Editor text box and see if that works.
Best to try it in the testing area, then delete the post. Thanks

Thanks for the suggestion, unfortunately it doesn’t work for me. To top things off, I can’t find any way to delete the post either.

So, back to my original question. Why are some able to post attachments (I assume through the Select File box) and others like myself unable to see the Select File Box to post attachments? Is this a random glitch to “some members” due to swallowing WS or is this the future of the forum for some?

I’m not sure what’s causing it, but I think there may be a solution.

      See https://www.askwoody.com/forums/topic/testing-image-importing-and-then-deleting-post/#post-327798

There are zillions of moving parts flying around right now. I feel like I’m sticking my hand in a blender, trying to tighten the lock nut. So let’s take it verrrrrrrry slowly and see if anything breaks.

I’d get the devs working on it, but I really, really need to get Windows Secrets Lounge moved over.

Everything: “Trash”, “Edit”, “Thanks”… and the place for inserting files, all is here, as I write this. Hoping it will stay this way. If it does: congratulations!

Try uploading the image to Postimage.org (no membership necessary). If your image won’t display using the insert image option, you can at least link the URL.

I can’t Del post in TESTING

I’ve been looking at the settings. The way things are set up, you have 60 minutes to edit (or, I assume, delete) a Reply before it’s set in concrete.

Is it possible that you exceeded the 60 minute window?

      @ Bluetrix and CADesertRat

I’ll give ya a 9 outta 10. … I can’t Del post in TESTING but that was an issue well before the WSL thingy.

Inside of one minute after looking at post. The Del (TRASH) button never appears at all. I also mentioned this isn’t new, goes back to at least Nov 2018 iirc. I had to have PK or someone else delete it for me

Same here as I mentioned in post #327500. There was no Trash or anything to delete the test and it was a matter of 10 minutes or less from posting in test and looking for the trash button.

I think the forum software is performing as designed as far as the *Trash* function is concerned. Let me explain:

When you go to the *Test* forum, the first thing you see is this underneath the usual couple two or three topics listed (sometimes more if there are additional testers and the test topics have yet to be deleted):

      Create-New-Topic-Entry-Box

This Entry Box will allow you to describe your new Topic, and will be the topmost entry of the new Topic. It looks like all the other *Replies*, but it is actually a *special* entry as it is integral to the creation of the *New Topic*.

So, compare the above *Entry Box* to the one below–the *Reply* Entry Box:

      Reply-To-Entry-Box

Almost identical to the *Create Topic* Entry Box, except it now says *Reply To* above the Entry Box.

Note: The topmost entry of a Topic has NO *Trash* button available to a Lounger (only admins and MVP’s have a *Trash* button available):

      No-Trash-Button-for-Topics

But, a *Reply* entry will have a *Trash* button available to the person who created that *Reply*:

      Trash-Button-for-Replies

So, have to be a little more specific as to what’s being done, and what function you’re trying to perform. One can *Post* a *New Topic*, and one can *Post* a *Reply*–but the Posts are different functions. Once created, a Topic can receive Replies from other Users–so deleting (Trashing) a Topic can potentially effect any number of other Users who have Posted Replies to that Topic. On the other hand, a User, who has posted a Reply, retains the right to *Trash* their single reply (this is time limited–Woody has said there is a hour during which you can delete your post) because it only effects that user and not any others.

So, it appears that the software is designed to allow Loungers to *Create Topics*, but only Admins and MVP’s can delete a *Topic*. And Loungers can *Create Replies* within a Topic, and for a limited time they can delete the Replies that they have created.

So, if your *Testing* does not involve *Creating a Topic*, then you could choose to use one of the topics already in the *Testing Forum* to test your *Reply Testing*–you will retain the right to *Trash* it once you complete the testing, and you will not have to ask an Admin or MVP for help.

I had to have PK or someone else delete it for me. I have since stopped using the test forum, except for this one test since it didn’t work for me. No biggie, I was only using it to test bbcodes, I do that elsewhere if needed now.  Unless you want to use bbcodes, testing a text post can just as easily be done in notepad. It’s only occurring in the test forum, I can edit and del in all others. At least in the ones I have tried, like here, responding to your Main posting, or replies. I haven’t ranted lately 🙂 so I’d have to check it out. Thought I’d let the smoke clear 1st. Thx for bringing back “inserts”.
