Hello; I have MS 10. MS keeps wanting to upgrade to 11. I don’t want that. How can I permanently stop or disable this? I am aware that MS will stop supporting it around 2025 or earlier. Tank you.

Thank you your reply. So if I click on this, my computer won’t be upgraded to Win 11?

        “Manually add the values “TargetReleaseVersion”=dword:00000001, “ProductVersion”=”Windows 10”, and “TargetReleaseVersionInfo”=”21H1”.

I’ve made it easier for you by including links to download these registry keys. If you want to stay on 21H1, click on this link and install it on your system.”

        • #2401753

Correct. Double-click that registry file to install after download.

That Registry entry will hold your system at Windows 10, v21H1, and allow you to get monthly updates for version 21H1, until you want to upgrade to the next version (21H2 or later) of Win10.
At that point, you will need to execute the .reg file that allows your system to upgrade to 21H2 (or whatever version you choose).

      Thank you for this.

For my education (as I either only have computers that won’t upgrade to 11 or that like my surface LTE it hasn’t offered it yet) how are you being offered 11? Are you getting a choice?

Yeah, I’d be interested to know that too. My main pc has been deemed worthy of receiving 11, but that was quite some time back now, and although I’m not planning on taking up the kind offer just yet, I would like to know the actual process by which it’s offered to people (as opposed to going off and installing it yourself), as I don’t believe I’ve ever seen that spelled out in detail anywhere

From previous posts it seems that Windows 11 will be offered not pushed to compatible Windows 10 devices.
You get the choice to upgrade or stay on Windows 10.

Thanks for posting that Alex, I don’t think I’ve seen that particular screenshot anywhere before

Those on Windows 10, version 2004 should pay attention as 2004 will reach the end of servicing on December 14, 2021.
After that date Microsoft will (probably) push Windows 11 to compatible PCs and Windows 10 21H2 to non-compatible PCs.

Just now I downloaded Susan’s nifty key. Before I imported it into the registry I edited the target version downscale to 20H2, the one on which the machine currently runs.

Why stay on 20H2 ? Both 21H1 and 21H2 are very small 5 minutes download+update that just set some switches ON.

Providing you have the latest CU installed.
If you do not, then it will install the latest CU + the Enhancement package, which is larger.

Susan recommends going to 21H2 so I have changed the registry entry to 21H2 accordingly.
I also use WUMgr, will it prevent the move to 21H2 ? Or will it offer the change when I click on the search for updates, along with all the other updates. Thanks.

If you don’t have any deferrals WUmgr will offer 21H2 and all the updates.
