I receive accounting entries in Excel 2013 workbooks as email attachments. They always open as Read Only in Compatability mode (as some are still xls) which means I cannot enter my approval and date then resave to send back. This is annoying. It’s all internal email. Before 13 I did not have this problem. How do I configure Outlook to let me open and save the attachment? I did some searching here yesterday but did not see anything. TYIA

See if Edit and Save Outlook’s Read-Only Attachments helps.

Also, see Disable Reading Mode and Protected View in Word 2013 . The Trust Center settings should be there for Excel too.

I went into Word and changed the settings per the second link, but Excel attachments still open as Read-only. In Excel, the Trust center selections had also been cleared as you thought. We can use the Actions/Edit Message path, but it’s just another step slowing things down.

Have you restarted each program after changing the setting? Have you rebooted just in case?

I usually have the same issue with received attachments but always get a warning about the files having come from an unknown computer/network/Internet.

Before you wonder "Am I doing things right," ask "Am I doing the right things?"
