    Hello,

I just noticed a couple of days back that a funny border now surrounds all my Desktop Icons (see screen-shot).

How did this come & how do I get rid of it?

    Cheers,

    BD.

      Hi Bob,

It sounds like a setting for your desktop appearance has changed. Right click on the destop choose Properties and from the display Properties dialogue box select the Appearance tab and then on the Effects button. Uncheck the “Show shadows under menus” box and that should solve it. See ScreenShot.

There are 2 other settings you may want to look at

      1. Right click on “My Computer” and select Properties
      2. On the Advanced tab click on the Settings button in the Performance section
      3. Select Custom and then scroll down to and de-select “Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop”
      4. Click Apply twice to change the setting

After doing this you may have to change another setting for this to work.

      1. Right click on the desktop and select Properties
      2. On the Desktop tab click “Customize desktop”
      3. On the Web tab make sure “Lock desktop items” is not selected and you have nothing selected in the “Web pages” box.
      4. Click OK/apply to save the setting

Some people report this does not work first time so you may have to select/de-select these settings again to see if it works. It is an issue which some people have been unable to resolve.
