• Strange Character (Word 2000)

    I have attached a word document with a strange character in the words “manufacturer” and “approved”. They can be hidden or revealed when you click on the display/hide paragraph mark, but I am not sure how it got there.

      These are optional hyphens, which can be inserted by pressing CTRL+HYPHEN. According to the (Word XP) help file, they are “used to control where a word or phrase breaks if it falls at the end of a line”. They can safely be deleted if you don’t need them.
