• Strange pop-up box on template

    Hi

I”m working through some standard documents, bookmarking certain fields and then saving them as word templates. The documents have been created by someone else.

I have a strange problem with one of the documents. When it is saved as a .doc, it opens ok. However if I save it as a .dot (without making any changes to it at all), I get a pop-up box that appears 4 times (see attached screenshot) before the document opens. I’m not sure what this relates to or how to get rid of it. Can anyone help?

    Cheers,
    Jason

Here’s a guess… If you open the VB Editor (Alt+F11), do you see any AutoOpen (or AutoNew) macros, or any procedures in the ThisDocument module? Depending on where you had saved the document, preexisting macros may have been disabled, and if you saved the template in a trusted location, those macros may now be enabled.

It’s also possible that these are blank fill-in fields, which were put in the document at some earlier time.

If you put empty fill-in fields in a document, and then save that as a template, then every time you create a new document based on the template, the fill-in prompts – which look just like the one you’ve illustrated – will appear in sequence.

To make these fields visible in your template so you can see where they’re located, you could Select All, right-click and click on Toggle Field Codes from the context menu.
