Seems Windows 10 isn’t playing nice again and my system is hung at 38% and not going anywhere. It’s been over 16 hours and a restart only starts the process up again with hangs at 38%. I tried to boot into safe mode, haven’t done that in years, but trying options to restore to a previous point wouldn’t be allowed and multiple restarts were useless.

This computer mainly handles my weather data uploading data to varies weather sites as well as my observatory. Locally I have a dedicated weather station on the observatory having learned that lesson long ago.

So what means do I have at stopping this update and rolling back to the previous version? I should know this but it seems to change which each version of Windows. Makes me think hard about trying one of those fruit systems……

Do you know if this is a feature release or a merely monthly update?

Can you boot into safe mode?

Can you delete the update cache?

Restoring from your latest image back can help.

After numerous attempts I was able to to get Windows to open with restarting the computer numerous times holding the power switch down and cycling several times to where Windows opened with menu choices, I guess it was Windows 10 version of safe mode. I then tried several attempts at repair which were unsuccessful before Select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Repair did work.

Not near as easy as I remember from other versions of Windows but then again that could be a memory thing…mine not the computer’s.

I had thought as a last resort I could restore from a backup but wanted to try the easier methods 1st. It didn’t seem to want to taking way more attempts then it should have.

      Thanks,

      Steve

My machine had a brain fart this month (similar long install doing nothing) – suggestion was it is a SSU issue so you might get away with stopping the update, putting the SSU on and trying again.. shouldn’t hurt anything but of course, no promises..

No idea but after rebooting in safe mode I paused updates for 35 days.
