I happened to read Rick Corbett’s #4 post at /showthread//183446-Is-anyone-running-an-HP-Compaq-6000-Pro-on-Windows-10?p=1097674&viewfull=1#post1097674 when I had been working on a customer’s new Win10 desktop PC and near-new Win10 laptop PC. The work included copying the customer’s files from his old Acer Aspire Z5710 all-in one PC, which had Windows 7, to his new Win10 desktop PC, and he had asked me to wipe his files from the old Acer PC before disposing of it as I saw fit.
After reading the tenforums article Rick had linked to in his post I decided to “give it a go”. Even though the Z5710 is about seven years old it’s specs are quite good even by now standards: Intel i5 CPU @ 3.2GHz, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD, and 23inch screen.
So I imaged the HDD partitions to one of my workbench PCs, extracted the “GenuineTicket.xml” file (as detailed in the tenforums article) and copied it to a USB Thumbdrive, wiped the partitions off the Z5710’s HDD, then booted from one of my MCT USB Thumbdrives (created using Micro$oft’s “Media Creation Tool ) and clean-installed Windows 10 Home Version 1809 (OS Build 17763.134).
After Win10 had finished installing I copied the “GenuineTicket.xml” file to the folder specified in the tenforums article (linked above), then restarted Win10 expecting that Win10 would activate automatically; but it didn’t, and still didn’t after a further restart. However, a few seconds after I clicked on “Activation troubleshooter” a message popped up saying that Windows was now activated. That was two days ago, and “Settings/Update & Security/Activation” is still saying “Windows is activated with a digital license”.
So thanks to Rick Corbett (for posting the link), and also to Shawn Brink (for the TenForums article).
