Can anyone offer an easy way to create a grid for use with this popular game? My friend wants instructions on creating the form, and I can easily provide her with the steps to make the basic table of 9 columns and 9 rows, with a size of .75″ for each cell. I haven’t figured out, though, how to create the heavier interior borders surrounding each of “sub-tables” – the nine groups each composed of 3 columns and 3 rows of cells.
I hope I’ve made this clear. Thanks for any ideas.

AskWoody LoungerFebruary 16, 2006 at 2:02 pm #1000560Start by creating a 9 by 9 table..
Use the mouse to select the 3 by 3 block in the upper left of the table.
Next, hold down the Ctrl key while selecting the 3 by 3 block to the right of it.
Repeat for the other 3 by 3 blocks (holding down Ctrl all the time).
If you make a mistake, click outside the table and start over.
When you have selected all nine 3 by 3 blocks, release the Ctrl key.
Select Format | Borders and Shading…
Click “Grid” in the Setting column on the left.
Click OK. -

AskWoody LoungerFebruary 11, 2008 at 2:26 pm #1096959Hi Hans
Has been a long time since I had to bother you. So I thought I would just say thanks for this solution to this Sudoku grid problem. I’d been pulling my hair out for quite a while working how to do it.
As it happens on Offiice 2000 you cannot select a block of three by three then hold the Ctrl key down and select the next block as it immediately looses the first. However its easy to do the job several times and get lines you want.
Trust you are well
Best wishes

That is correct, the ability to select discontiguous areas of a document was introduced in Word 2002.
An easy way to repeat the borders is:
– Select the first block of 3 by 3 cells.
– Set the borders the way you want.
– Select the next block of 3 by 3 cells.
– Select Edit | Repeat Borders and Shading or press Ctrl+Y.
– Repeat the previous two steps as long as needed. -

AskWoody LoungerFebruary 25, 2008 at 10:16 pm #1099206Hi Hans
I do apologise for not thanking you for you quick response before now. I was so pleased that it worked I completely forgot to check back in the lounge.
I thought I was fairly smart with Word, but I had completely overlook crtl Y, which works like magic!
Thanks Again
best wishes
Michael
