    Hello everyone;

i hope this is the proper site for this type of posting.
i have adobe acrobat professional rev 6 [aap6]. yes i know it’s old, but it’s been working ok for my needs [so far].
i also have been running office 2003 without any problem all theses years.
form some pdf files containing tables, i was using “select text” to copy into excel, and from there converted “text to columns”, finally obtaining an excel table.
i admit, a little bit cumbersome, but the magnitude and value of the info obtained justified the effort.

with THIS particular file, i have a problem.
as it appears, THIS pdf was created from (i assume) .doc which had a PICTURE OF THE TABLE pasted into it.
when i try to do the same in aap6, it doesn’t select anything (doesn’t highlight it).
i hope i have explained correctly the nature of my problem.
    the question is:
could someone please recommend (if it exists), an application that enables to extract a table embedded INTO a picture? (i believe the use of the term “embedded” for this situation is appropriate).
i’ll be glad to complement / answer with required info to help understand / define my scenario.
    TIA [thanks in advance]

      Hi,

When a PDF is based on an image, there’s no direct way to select the text depicted in the image. However, if you have Acrobat Professional, you should have an option to ‘OCR’ the text. In Acrobat 8, that can be found under Document > OCR Text Recognition > Recognize Text Using OCR. Once you’re run the OCR, the text should be selectable and copyable. Note that the accuracy of the text recognition is going to be highly dependent on the visual quality of the image which is being scanned.

      Hi Gary,

Thank you very much for your reply.
Unfortunately; I don’t have the OCR feature in my version of Adobe Acrobat.

I have long ago abandoned Acrobat, however with version 5.0 one could download and add the OCR software at no additional charge.
Have you looked on their web site to see if this is available for version 6?
