I need to create a table with two columns and 6 rows. I need to be able to adjust the height of the cells in the left side row independently of the height of the cells in the right side row. By default they move together. How do I do this?

As far as I know, there is no way to adjust the height of the cells in the left side of the table, independently of the height of the cells in the right side. There are a few ways you might work around this:

[*]Vertically merge some cells in one column or the other – this way you can end up with different cell heights in the different columns.
[*]Create two two separate one-column tables and drag them so they are side by side (this will set the text wrapping on the tables to ‘Around’). You might have to set the Table Positioning of one of the tables so that it vertically aligns with the other.
[*]Set up a two-column layout, and have a one-column table in each column.

Interesting challenge! What I came up with isn’t perfect:

-build a 2-column table
-insert a 6-row table in each column.

It looks a little funny, but you’ve got control! (the attached document spells out the specifics of building this thing)

I downloaded the attached template from the Microsoft website. I believe it has a table like I’ve described. That is what I want to duplicate.

I suspect Gary’s second method might create something like this, but I’ve been unable to drag the tables I create together.

It looks like what’s going on in that Microsoft template is something like the ‘table within a table’ method that Judy describes – hadn’t thought of that method when I wrote the first reply, but I think Judy’s method will be your best bet to accomplish this.

I played around a bit more with the table in that template. I was able to duplicate it, but in the end it was not what I wanted anyway.

On that table, the left and right side columns at first seem to be independent of each other, but they are not. Adjusting row height in the right does affect the left side.
But as a test, I did manage to duplicate that table by creating a table with many more columns and rows than were needed, then did a lot of creative cell merging to give the final table. Which by the way Gary did suggest in his first post.

If I want full independent control of the left column/right column row heights, the way that Judy came up with does work.
