In using Word’s Table of Authorities features the “Mark All” button doesn’t truly do that. It appears that it only marks the first instance of the cite in each paragraph and doesn’t allow for the possibility of that paragraph spanning a page. Am I missing something?

Also, we’re using the free WestCite addin provided by Westlaw and it does a hotdog job of jumpstarting the TOA process but my question is – What if I don’t want the hyperlinking? I have one machine that doesn’t do it and the others do. Me being me – I want to make all the others be like the broken one. he he he

AND…yep there’s more, my users are applying character styles to their cites within the body of the document but when they generate their TOA, even checking the box to keep formatting isn’t keeping that character style attached to their cases when it generates the TOA.

    Any ideas?

Eeeeks! If at first you don’t succeed READ READ READ. LOL Got out my PremEd Mastering Word 2000 by Mansfield/Olsen and SpecEd Word 2000 Que book by Camarda and some of my questions have been answered. Still wondering why the “Mark All” feature doesn’t do just that though AND about the Hyperlink formatting though using WestCite toolbar.

The saga of answering my own questions continue. There is an Options feature to WestCite that gives a good ole check box to do the wild and daring thing of NOT using the hyperlinks on the cites. YEAH TEAM, HOMERUN! Sorry, I get alittle excited sometimes.

Still reading so I’ll keep posting my findings so others can see what me finds and can contribute their spin on things.

Yep! And they have other neat info as well (including a User’s Guide). Thanks, Geoff.

Sorry Karen, didn’t realize the link was what you were after. Thanks for posting the link Geoff.

Hey, that’s what a moderator has to do. It’s not necessary to know the subject, just keep an eye on posts, links etc.

              That’s why there’s a few posts with “*** URL MARKUP ADDED ***”

Do people understand what that means, and what has been done?

Found it by accident when I did a right-click on the TOA code to use the “Update Field” command. Noticed there was an option “WestCite” and low and behold, there was “Options” and it was a GOLD MINE of options. You can add publications, descriptions, edit where it places the TOA – beginning, end, or at insertion point of doc; Could UNCHECK hyperlinks option and could combine State and Fed cases if wanted to. Looks like it’s pretty flexible. I think it’s going to be pretty powerful for a freebie.

I also realized when I cruised through the macros that template contained there was one for Options and Help so I ended up modifying the toolbar for our environment to include them.

Also, figured out where my pre-Word thinking was shooting me in the foot on formatting the TOA listings. It’s done in the TOA create cite window – you can select text and bold, italicize, etc. to format as you desire it to appear in the TOA – it is then embedded in the *hidden* TA codes in the document. However, since the WestCite tool does all that for you without ever seeing that window, the opportunity to do it there was lost. BUT the good news is, I can edit the TA codes and do it. I marked *hidden* with asterisks because they were never hidden from me – I always work with it on <more of my WordPerfect hangover

I'll keep digging though, there's probably more I haven't found yet.
