Target Frame in Hyperlinks (FP 2000)

Is there some way I can make a hyperlink open a new page without the toolbars showing (i.e no address, no links, etc.), and also define in some way the size that the page opens, without making them java pop-ups?

When I make the hyperlink I use target setting as _blank. I would prefer to not have to use java as many visitors to our site have very old machines with old browsers, etc. and we do not want to shut anyone out. Being shut out of health care is a problem many of our visitors have and shutting them out of a support organization is just not nice . For some, when they currently click on a link, the new page opens in a full size window . The possibility for confusion is ripe. One of our board members (with a PhD no less) got confused as to how to get back to the main page as the back button was grayed out. Our board member not recognize that this was a new window for a few moments.

No, I don’t think so. However, if you look at the specific JavaScript command used to open new windows, I believe it was around in very early versions of Netscape and Internet Explorer, maybe 5 to 6 years ago.

Here’s a completely different solution: have the link open a frameset in a _blank window. On the top, you can have a note to the user, such as, For your convenience, the other site is displayed in the window below. To return to our site, close this window and our window will be right behind it. Or, if JavaScript is enabled, you can have a “click here” close window link in place of the latter part of the message.

To implement this, the “slow” way would be to create a separate frameset document for each link, and change the links on your pages to these frameset documents:

• Link0001.html, Link0002.html, etc. – a frameset document for each link that shows your message in the top frame and the desired link in the bottom frame
• message.html – the document that goes in the top frame for all framesets
