Have a simple audio recording program, needs to record 4 hrs each weekday.

Got it to start the program ok but the setting that says to end this program if it continues for a certain length of time is not working, it just goes on and on recording all day. What am I missing?

Also, in XP there is a detailed daily task schedule so that I could exclude weekend recording, is that in the Win 7 settings somewhere that I can’t find?

For everyone who beats on about how superior W7 is, raspberries! And for help, thanks. :p

Found the daily task schedule….now just need it to stop the task after 4 hours…

      Infinicore,

Did you check the “If the running task does not end when requested, force it to stop” option?

Look the Settings tab on the Properties of the task in Task Scheduler.

Have a look. I didn’t have the end task if runs longer than… setting set in the edit trigger settings. Looks like the same thing but maybe it will apply next time or it needs both? Find out I guess.

Still have the runaway recording machine, the Edit trigger setting did not do the trick.

      Infinicore,

Ok, here’s a shot-in-the-dark. Have you tried runnig the program in XP compatibility mode? From your OP I gather that you were using this program under XP successfully so this might change something that will allow it to shut down when instructed by task manager.

I don’t think that’s going to work because I had to upgrade the program to the latest version in order for it to work with the Windows 7 audio subsystem but I set it anyway, see what happens. At least its a nice quiet recording, little if any RF interference.
This problem reminds me more of a legacy problem from Vista, where task scheduler, from my experience, was pretty much broken and useless.

Now I see task manager is running two (2) instances of RecordPad (the program in question)..and neither one is being terminatated!

Try this Infinicore, I know it works. 29971-Task-Scheduled-Restart

Thanks but I don’t feel like going back to the stone age of computing. I also tried multiple starts of the program at predetermined intervals with the program set to just end the recording and NOT begin a new–essentially letting the task scheduler do that, and maybe it would work if I rebooted but I’m also tired of getting nothing but a fudge packing from Win7.
So I loaded a VM of old rusty trusty XP and the old version of the program and its picking right up on the audio I want to record so I’m going to see if the VM’s task scheduler is as flawless as the real thing and go from there. Jeez is it bad luck or is the task scheduler in Vista and Win7 crap?

I can’t find anything about tasks failing to stop. Are you creating tasks and making changes logged in with an account that is a member of the admin group? Are you running with an account that is a member of the admin group?

          VM-PERFECT W7-FAIL again.

Like I said before, don’t know if its just my bad luck with program-OS integration, but I’ve never been able to get Vista or Win7 TS to comply to my exacting demands, and XP makes it look effortless.

Wishing you good luck, hope you don’t need it.

Yes, admin, highest privileges, and using the start task regardless of being logged in or not (profile password required).
I’ve got the same settings now entered into the VM task scheduler (as closely as they can be duplicated), both the host and the VM started the respective application on schedule…just waiting for the cutoff time.

Going by the audio meters it looks like there is just a slight delay (200 milliseconds maybe) to the VM but that shouldn’t matter in the least as long as its audio only.
