In Win 98 the Task Scheduler had an icon in the system tray. In ME it seems to have disappeared. Anyone know how to get it back in there? I liked having it there so I could pause it with a simple right-click.

I also prefer the Task Scheduler icon in the system tray.
I am at work (Win NT) vice home (Win ME), so I can’t give the exact steps.
Open Control Panel to access the Task Scheduler, then use the menus to find the Options. It has an option for showing an icon in the system tray.

I’m sorry but I can’t find any “Options” for the Task Scheduler except the menu options under advanced which are “Notify of missed tasks” etc. The Windows Folder Options doesn’t seem to have this option either…
If you yould pretty please check your home system for me I’d be ever so grateful

it’s not on the TS shipped with ME – i thought it had the option but can’t find it anywhere. But i like it out of the tray
one workaround is to create a shortcut to TS and put it in quick launch or on the desktop. or make control panel expandable and access it faster that way.

I have both of those already! But I do like it in the tray, for quick access to pause/resume of the tasks…

Sorry. I couldn’t find that option when I looked on my home machine either. I dug through my “Fixes & Tips” folder, and found the following message on a registry edit to enable the Task Scheduler Tray Icon
          —————————————-
There is a registry fix which enables the Task Scheduler Tray Icon. Make the following into a file using Notepad using cut & paste. Use the information after – – start and before – – end. Don’t let lines ([HKEY to corresponding ] ) wrap around, and make sure there is a blank line at the end. Save as “Task-On.reg”, then double-click on this file to enter it into the registry.

          – – start
          REGEDIT4

          [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftPlus!System Agent]
          “EnableTrayIcon”=3Ddword:00000001

          – – end

I can email this reg file to you if you want.

this works for ME? (asking because it doesn’t on my ME install – even rebooted)

            • #1776072

took awhile but i finally figured out the problem – it was loading winupdate and the compaq service utility that i had disabled instead of TS. Should have deleted those exes instead of disabling them to begin with – but with them gone the reg fix loads the TS.

I added it to my registry (manually I must admit, the .reg file didn’t seem to work), rebooted and it worked! Lovely, thanks v much!

              Glad to hear it worked.
I don’t know why Microsoft removed that option. It seems to be something users desire.
