Does anyone know why similar taskbar buttons would not group properly? For example, if someone opens multiple Word documents, then minimizes the windows, if “Group Similar Taskbar Buttons” is checked, you should see three Word buttons on your taskbar. This is not working for myself and others in my office

I think the grouping kicks in when there is no more room on the task bar. So as long as you have “Blue” space on the task bar, a additional icon will appear.

In addition to DaveA’s reply: Microsoft’s free utility TweakUI XP (available from Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP) lets you finetune how taskbar buttons are grouped. See screenshot.

Thanks Dave and Hans – there is still plenty of room on the taskbar for buttons; I’ll check out the power toy – thanks for the replies!
