    Hi,

I’ve just installed Windows 2000 (Professional, SP1) on my home PC (dual boot setup with Win98 on C: and Win2K on D).

Win2K so far appears to be working fine, other than the following odd problem:

If the screen saver comes on (and/or the power saver/screen dimmer), when I resume using the PC, the Start menu and all of the items on the taskbar are gone!
Where the Start menu was, there is a black rectangle. And if I put the cursor over the taskbar, the icon changes to an hourglass.
Problem goes away if I reboot.

Any suggestions for fixing this are welcome.

    Thanks,
    Gary

      Try re-applying the service pack.

        Leif,

        Thanks for the suggestion.
I just did find a solution though – someone at another site suggested checking for updated video driver – which turned out not to be the problem.
But it gave me the idea to play around with the video settings – color, refresh rate etc. – about a year ago I’d had a similar problem with Word menus going bad, and which was solved by changing the video settings. Anyway believe it or not this solved the problem!

BTW the site was the forum at pcnineoneone.com, which was recommended by Dave A. in a post the other day. I’d have to say it looks like a good place for ideas about hardware/OS problems.
