Now this HAS to be wrong!

My entire life has been stored in Lotus Organizer for around six or seven years now, and I don’t want to lose any of the information stored in it, including past appointments, completed tasks, etc etc, just because I’m going over to Outlook. So, I exported the info from Organizer and imported it into Outlook (it wasn’t nearly as simple as that makes it sound, but that was the net effect. Eventually).

Now, when I look at Outlook Today, EVERY SINGLE TASK, COMPLETED OR NOT, is listed there!!! Several years worth!

In Outlook 98, when you tick a task as completed on Outlook Today, it thinks about it for a few seconds, then removes it from the list – why on earth isn’t XP doing the same?!

Is there some setting somewhere I’m missing? This surely can’t be right!

    Please help!

I don’t see any option for “hide completed tasks” in Customize Outlook Today. So… hmmm… Would it be acceptable as a temporary workaround to drag the older ones into a different folder? Outlook then should ignore them.

Yes, I’ve created a ‘done’ tasks folder inside the main one and every so often I’ll have to drag them over, I suppose. What I can’t see is WHY it’s doing it, though!

        Thanks anyway!

In that case, Archive that folder. Also, you can work with completed Tasks by using Views, Completed.

I think what you need to do is “archive” your old items. You don’t lose anything, but old stuff is moved out of your current folders into special archive folders. Sorry I’m not totally up on this but you can look it up in help. There is an “auto-archive” feature. You can set auto-archive settings in Tools>Options>Other>Auto-Archive, and then use File>Archive.

Yes, but you can’t tell it to archive ONLY completed tasks! Some tasks (like clearing out the big wardrobe …!) have been there for nearly three years, whilst other tasks are completed and need removing in days … no, I think it’s going to have to be Jefferson’s suggestion.

        sigh

Beryl, on XP I don’t have the same result as you. On my home machine I have a large number of completed tasks, and two incomplete tasks, and only the incomplete tasks show in Outlook Today. My Outlook Today Task settings are “All Tasks, sorted by Due Date”. I wonder if there’s something not quite right with your import.

That’s what I wondered – but new tasks that are created in XP and then closed behave the same way! headthrob

Mine behaves thus: if the task was completed today, it shows crossed out; if completed last Friday, not shown at all.

Interestingly, all the graphics are missing, so perhaps mine is not quite set up correctly, either. laugh
