• Template Error (Word for Mac 2004)

I know a Mac user who gets an unusual error message whenever she tries to attach a certain template to a file through Tools>Templates and Add-Ins. The template file is where it should be, and it’s not corrupted. She can see it, and select it, but then she gets a message that “this document template does not exist.”

Anyone know what might cause this?

    Thanks.

Random thought: Could the template contain a reference to another template? By reference, I mean the kind created in the Visual Basic Editor (in Windows, Tools>References).

        No.

Other Mac and Windows users have no trouble attaching this template or using it as an Add-In.

Can that particular mac user copy that template to another user? Also can she log on (same computer) as another user and see if the same thing happens? I am assuming they are running MacOS X. If 9 classic is on the machine and you can get a copy of Resedit from Apple. You could look at the offending template and good template in resedit get info to see if the creator and I think the other window was source. (senior moment). If they are not the same then they could change it. I had something funny like that happen to me when I was helping out at a grade school computer lab.

Move the template to her desktop (or any random folder)

Have her open the template in question as a document for editing.

Then do File SaveAS, save as template, and select the folder she want so keep it in (Templates:My Templates)

Now see if she can attach it to an existing document.

See if she can create a new document based on it from the Project manager.
