      Susan,
Didn’t you exclude IP addresses so it wouldn’t happen with the “\”?
Did you use a different computer (IP address) when you entered the other post?

      • #2473767

those questions are directed towards Susan
        On a side note:
looks like the pre-tags don’t work on the visual editor, fine in text editor as per posts above. Clue? or…

replicated it, it’s related to embedded attachments and backslashes input via the Visual editor AND the text editor 🙂
AND have also discovered that the pre-tags in the Visual editor don’t work properly.

Yup. I think you got it @Microfix

Test of the pre tags using visual mode.

This is preformatted text using BBcode.
This is preformatted text using the Paragraph drop-down.
This is preformatted text using HTML tags

Test using \ to see if they get removed

      C:\Temp
      C:\Windows\System32\GroupPolicy\Machine\Scripts\Shutdown
      C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\Dictionaries

      • #2473923

One of the differences is, @Microfix used the “< >” brackets for the code in #2473789, and you used the “[ ]” brackets above. It could explain why yours worked and the others didn’t.

The “\” get removed it you embed a .png graphic.

        • #2474042

Actually, if you read the preformed text, you’ll notice I used all 3 available methods so, maybe the pre tags also get messed up if you embed a .png image.

Lets try it out and see

          This is preformatted using BBcode.
This is preformatted using the Paragraph drop-down.
This is preformatted using HTML tags.

          Enterprise

    • #2474055

Well, that worked so the pre tag thing isn’t related to the embedded image problem.

Maybe @Microfix isn’t authorized to use HTML tags

      • #2474077

Maybe @Microfix isn’t authorized to use HTML tags

I don’t believe that is the case.

            That was just plain weird.
I highlighted the line in @alejr ‘s post and hit the “Quote” button.
Did the same thing now, and it came out right.
            Who knows??

            • #2474214

I “assume” the topic here is that PKCano’s post #2474077 showed geekdom wrote: instead of alejr wrote: when he originally made it?

If so, I’ve had that happen to me a few times and have noticed it also sometimes happens to other posters in our other threads here (sometimes very obvious because of the “quoted content“, sometimes not.)

This might be something else we should try to find the cause of once we resolve the “why do \’s sometimes get removed” thing.

      Some information:

      • If you leap from Visual to Text and versa visa three or four times, you will eventually confuse the editor and botch the code depending on what code you have introduced.
      • bbcode and HTML together may not work together nicely.
      • Not everyone has all the HTML commands. Most folks have the limited HTML set.
      • Close your tags.
      • Lists are problem creators as they come in two parts: UL or OL and LI.

AH HA…. fascinating..  adding two slashes with an image keeps the one slash

            Susan Bradley Patch Lady/Prudent patcher

    • #2475677

They wanted me to disable the firewall and I did it on the test site rather than here.  Disabling the firewall on the test site still had the slash with the picture problem.

I have forgotten who I did and didn’t give exclusions to?   If I gave you exclusions can you test again with an image and a single slash?

As it makes no sense that it’s still occurring on the test site with the firewall off.

Whitelising in wordfence has no impact.  I think it was a coincidence and people didn’t post images.

So why does bbpress (or wordpress) pull off slashes?  And def only a backslash
