When I use the “test account settings”-buttons everything works fine, but when I send an actual message I get a time-out error half the time (using local IIS/SMTP).

In addition, message relay fails to certain domains when I use my ISP’s SMTP-server, but “test account settings” works fine (and test message is received).

Any idea what is going on?

Not sure about the time-out error. I think you can extend the time for checking mail, not sure about sending.

What is the exact error message? Sometimes it’s in the body and sometimes it’s in the attachment, sometimes both together give you the complete picture.

I have extended the time both in Outlook and IIS, with no result (it just takes longer before the time-out occurs). If the message doesn’t leave the Outbox right away, it’s not going to happen.

Sometimes exiting Outlook and launching it again will do the trick (but not always to all the messages). After a number of times of trying to send the message Outlook usually succeeds, but this can be on the second try or the 25th.

The thing that really puzzles me is that the “test”-function never has this problem. However, sending a message the regular way does.

arie, I understand there is no error message. I am sure we can help you, but we need a little more information: just what you are doing is not quite obvious at the moment.

Arie, I’ve been experiencing similar problems with sending mail. Moderator/MVP jscher2000 suggested deleting all of my e-mail accounts in Outlook 2000 and then re-create each one. Unfortunately that suggestion did not resolve my issue. I have no problems **receiving** e-mail through any of my accounts.

I am getting several different error messages pertaining to (paraphrased) “connection suddenly/unexpectedly terminated with the server.” Like you, I tried Outlook 2002 and its account settings “test” feature…sometimes it’d work, other times it failed. Or it would finally send a test message back to me some 24 hours later.

I’m running Outlook 2000 with Office 2000 Pro SR-1a under Windows XP Pro.

By chance, are any of your domains and e-mail services registered with Register.com? I just transferred several of mine to them within the past couple of weeks and I have experienced a lot of difficulty sending e-mail from Outlook.

Oddly, I have no problem sending e-mail from Register.com’s webmail interface.
