      Paragraph
      <h1>Heading one</h1>
      <h2>Heading 2</h2>
      <h3>Heading three</h3>

    • #2454437

      <h1>Clicking on Heading 1 produced this</h1>
      <h2>Clicking on Heading 2 produced this</h2>
      <h3>Clicking on Heading 3 produced this</h3>
All of the above were produced by clicking on the drop-down menu box that’s in the upper left corner of the “Visual” tab. When I click on the Text tab, the entries look identical to @BradLee ‘s post above.

BUT, upon posting, they looked just like plain text items rather than what they looked like in the Visual tab before posting. WOW, and disappointing! Looks like no way to add a special heading that’s both larger and much bolder than regular text to a post.

Here’s another test to see if it works:
      <h1>This is Heading 1</h1>
      Test text
      <h2>This is Heading 2</h2>
      Test text
      <h3>This is Heading 3</h3>
      Test text

Nope, that didn’t work either. I’m using the drop down menu in the Visual tab and NOT any codes in the Text tab, but it sure looks like I am after I post it.

If you have unrestricted HTML content posting, your postbox will look like this at the top:
        https://www.askwoody.com/forums/topic/working-on-the-basics-of-the-forum-instruction/#post-2453624

        ———-

There’s only limited HTML access for those of us that don’t have unrestricted HTML content posting. I don’t have unrestricted content HTML posting. Shown below is my postbox.

If you use the Text toggle, there will be buttons across the top of the postbox. Most of these generate HTML and they produce the desired effect. For example, “b” button produces bold text.

        test

        wpcode

These commands are not forgiving. You can botch your posts and possibly more if you’re not careful. Remember to close your tags.

Some of these buttons will match the Visual hieroglyphs (and the corresponding hieroglyph will work).

For headings, use BBcode instead: size will set the text size.

Highlight the text, select the required format from the dropdown.
If you want to see how it works, click on the Text tab.

edit: and then it doesn’t work when you actually submit – looks OK in the editor.

A bunch o’ stuff looks fine in the editor, but doesn’t post as anticipated on the website (what you see is not what you get). See this for further information:

Headings will not work in BBCode. Stick with the size command.

Great info! Now, how to make sure that this info gets to the developers so they can make things work as it seems they should, like using the different entries in the drop down box in the Visual tab.

        • #2454649

Just to set expectations, I look for plug ins and already tested solutions rather than going for custom code.  I’m still finding bugs in some of the code that was specifically built for the site.

I’m guessing that statement probably covers just why the drop-down menu to select a certain type of font and size for the different headings in the Visual tab really doesn’t work once a comment is fully posted. In other words, looks good while composing, but once you hit the “Submit” button, the formatting doesn’t stay the way it looked while the message was being composed in the editor on the site.

That’s what happened in post 2454437 above…it looked fine while composting it and selecting it from the drop-down box, but looked completely different once it posted to the thread.
