Do back slashes appear in the following line?
C:\Users\xxx\Documents\HOW TO –\HOW TO for Windows 10\Group Names on Start Menu

Does the “>” sign appear in the following line? (a space surrounding each “>”)
C: > Users > xxx > Documents > HOW TO — > HOW TO for Windows 10 > Group Names on Start Menu

How about: (no space surrounding each “>”)
C:>Users>xxx>Documents>HOW TO –>HOW TO for Windows 10>Group Names on Start Menu

Does the vertical separator appear in the following line? (a space surrounding each “|”)
C: | Users | xxx | Documents | HOW TO — | HOW TO for Windows 10 | Group Names on Start Menu

How about: (no space surrounding each “|”)
C:|Users|xxx|Documents|HOW TO –|HOW TO for Windows 10|Group Names on Start Menu

If I recall correctly, backslashes stay put until you edit a post; then they disappear.

Maybe, that’s why, when I go back to edit the post with an answer to each example, I get this display??

That’s unfortunate. Better get it right the first time!!

WCHS: Minutes ago I wrote three backslashes in my answer to you in your thread, then noticed this one, read what Geekdom wrote here, went back to my comment in your thread and edited it, hit “Submit” and … the three backslashes were still there.

So, as I wrote there, I still think this is not a problem with the way this Website is set up. And still think that one thing you could do is to try with different browsers, in an attempt to either rule out or confirm that this is some weird browser problem.

      Good luck.

PKCano provided the answer to the backslashes having disappeared in a submitted post. It’s at How to fix backslashes, if they have disappeared in a post.

This is interesting, because it seems to depend on what one is writing, not just on typing the backslashes. I imagine most people, myself in this case, just type them as part of regular text, so the slashes stay there from the first and remain after one edits the text. Others who have commented here clearly know better, because they have more experience with this sort of thing than I do.
